Man’s genuine nature is joy. Bliss is inherent in the genuine self. Man’s look for joy is an oblivious quest for his actual self. The genuine self is enduring; in this way, when a man discovers it, he finds a bliss which doesn't reach a conclusion. † Humankind is joined in conviction that satisfaction is an entirely alluring state. Each individual, deliberately or unwittingly, are spurred in everything we do by our requirement for bliss. Being upbeat and quiet is viewed as a definitive part of a fruitful life, yet it is actually the most crucial part of life. The degree of joy may shift from individual to individual, yet what all individuals are focusing on is to feel upbeat. We pursue cash, wellbeing, development, popularity, force, property and connections, not for the good of their own yet for the fulfillment they guarantee. The production of realms and human advancements, the revelation of landmasses, the pursuing of wars, the entire recurring pattern of history is a realistic representation of man’s endless journey for satisfaction. Journey FOR HAPPINESS: The mission for satisfaction is interminable and limits no spot and time. The degree of man’s yearning for satisfaction gets ever more elevated as the way of life additionally increments. The initial move towards bliss prompts another progression, and afterward to another until a movement of steps is made violating the three elements of time †the past, the present, and what's to come. Bliss is corresponding to satisfaction dependent on word reference. Man has never been content for his entire life. His prosperity for having achieved a specific end consistently clears path to the desire to meet a better quality. Epicurus, an Athenian savant, recommended that with the end goal for man to accomplish joy, he should surrender all the complexities of life, similar to riches, want, distinction and influence, and return to essentials when the things that lone issue are those fundamental for unadulterated natural means, companions, opportunity and broke down life. It is difficult to convince a typical man to repudiate life’s common joys. On the off chance that man will surrender his craving desire to improve things, progress will be hampered and everything will be destined in complete stagnation. The idea of want makes the procurement of satisfaction incomprehensible. Man wants, he gets and get fulfilled, at that point he wants something different and start another interest. This is a cycle to which each man is oppressed. For each man to stay solid, beneficial and rational, he should proceed with the ceaseless journey of satisfaction. KNOWING ONESELF: â€Å"Know thyself implies this, that you get to know what you know, and what you can do† Says wander. At the point when an individual knows what their identity is, and plainly comprehends what they need, at that point they have a vastly improved possibility of finding how to arrive at their own prosperity, bliss and individual satisfaction. To be fruitful one have to profoundly recognize what he truly enjoys, what he truly doesn't care for, what he is acceptable at and what he isn't acceptable at. In the event that these inquiries are replied about oneself and choices are made, at that point normally achievement is trailed by joy. This fills everybody with much happiness, smoothness and furthermore improves individuals outlook, just as their connections and associations with others. Realizing oneself will empower them to build up their maximum capacity and be upbeat, mollified and satisfied. Regardless of whether their thought and comprehension of progress is satisfaction in business, fellowship, love, sports, a mix of all these or something else through and through, knowing oneself and dealing with improve will empower them to accomplish their objectives. At that point in fact, when they arrive at their objectives, they will end up being an a lot more joyful individual. What's more, that is genuine achievement in its most genuine sense. The best way to carry your best self to work and life is to know oneself well. Difficulties IN KNOWING ONESELF: â€Å"Knowing the other and knowing oneself, in one hundred fights no peril. Not knowing the other and knowing oneself, one triumph for one misfortune. Not knowing the other and not knowing oneself, in each fight certain destruction. † Man will in general be oblivious in regards to his own issues and shortcomings thus never fix the issues that keep him from more noteworthy achievement. He should start by recognizing the obstructions. In the event that one knows oneself, obstructions can be survived. Bror Carlson says, â€Å"A issue that is found and recognized is as of now half understood. By understanding the idea of the issue, we are well en route to more prominent self-authority and individual achievement. Numbness: Seventy-five percent of the secondary school understudies who will enter the workforce have no clue about what the term ‘inflation’ implies. Sixty-six percent can't mention to you what benefits are. Also, 55% of our youngsters have no comprehension of what a ‘government spending plan deficit’ is. This is because of the absence of dedicating time to pick up information however the individual is a lot of able. There are numerous interior and outside reasons for numbness; Lack of personal circumstance, inspiration, and wrong appraisal of oneself. All these contribute towards inside causes and outer causes are because of family pressure, absence of time the board or even money related obstructions. Character TRAITS: Personality characteristics are fixed at a youthful age, Hence outer components like childhood condition assumes a significant job in deciding the character. Since most authoritative pioneers are not on a thorough program of self-dominance, they display these equivalent qualities for an amazing duration. In the event that one is solid on confidence and personal development, these qualities would bolster the drive toward self-dominance. In any case, different qualities, for example, implosion, mythical being guilty pleasure and self indulgence would have the contrary impact. It is excellence that catches your consideration and character which catches your heart. Inner self DEFENSE MECHANISMS: â€Å"The decent thing about egomaniacs is that they don’t talk about others. You read Difficulties of Knowing Yourse lf and the Quesr for Happiness in class Papers † Lucille S. Harper The Ego is dependent upon various self-misdirections forestalling self-authority. Sigmund Freud numerous years prior saw that the Ego is a delicate substance requiring security from tension. Commonly it shows as some sort of distressing enthusiastic state, for example, dread, blame, shame, outrage, disappointment. Indeed, even the seemingly insignificant details in life can enact an Ego resistance component. A scowl from an unrivaled, analysis from the partner, blowing up at the individual who chanced upon you is a couple of models. Tragically, when these systems are locked in, the brain doesn't appropriately process the data it gets. NEGATIVE SELF-TALK: Thoughts greatly affect the feelings, emotions or perspectives that work at some random snapshot of time. For instance, the individual who thinks, â€Å"I’m not happy,† commonly feels that way. Studies state the individuals who have passionate issues take part in negative self-talk around 50 percent of the time. For reasons unknown, scarcely any individuals concede that they converse with themselves or comprehend the basic idea of this inward discourse. HABITUATION AND HABIT FORMATION: Habituated thinking designs create like certain roads in Boston. In the more established pieces of the city, the lanes follow the ways utilized by long dead dairy animals to get among outbuilding and field. The issue here is that we will in general get â€Å"stuck† in a lot of practices and examples of believed that don't bolster our quest for common achievement or self-dominance. Propensities begin creating at a youthful age, and keep on expanding on them as an individual become more established. At some point antagonistic propensities are perceived, yet the individual may feel like they are a piece of what their identity is, so they clutch them. There are likewise a few people who appear to be willfully ignorant and don't appear to perceive their adverse propensities by any stretch of the imagination. In the event that one give close consideration to oneself as it identifies with our regular daily existences and our dealings with others, we will probably discover propensities that we have to change. HOMEOSTASIS: â€Å"The mind acts like an elastic band that when extended, will in general snap back to the manner in which it was. † It’s difficult to manufacture new mental or social habitsâ€and incredibly hard to stop an old propensity and substitute another one. This implies one-time explosions of inspiration will in general produce small enduring impact. It’s safe to accept that new changes will be opposed by the persuasive powers supporting business as usual (homeostasis). Captured DEVELOPMENT: Many incredible pioneers have juvenile Egos. Captured improvement basically implies that Ego development has halted rashly. There are numerous side effects one can understanding. One side effect of this youthfulness is the pioneer who can't control their feelings. Another is a supervisor who accuses others while neglecting to take a gander at their very own commitment to the issue. A third side effect is somebody with high IQ however low passionate knowledge. Passionate insight is supposed to be a stepping stool containing mindfulness, self administration, social mindfulness and relationship the executives at each level. Feelings: The examination found that 26% of recently recruited employees fizzle since they can’t acknowledge input, 23% on the grounds that they’re unfit to comprehend and oversee feelings, 17% on the grounds that they come up short on the important inspiration to exceed expectations, 15% on the grounds that they have an inappropriate personality for the activity, and just 11% in light of the fact that they do not have the vital specialized aptitudes. This angle manages individuals who flop on dealing with their feelings. There is another perspective to these feelings where on the excursion

Once upon a time Essay

These ‘mechanical birds’ are books, with numerous ‘wings’, which means pages. The body yelling without torment is giggling and the eyes liquefying are the reader’s tears. â€Å"Model T is a stay with the lock inside †A key is gone to free the world For development, so snappy there is a film To look for anything missed†. These seventh and eighth refrains are discussing a vehicle. This is straightforward as Raine alludes to â€Å"Model T†, a notable vehicle. Raine says it is a room since you go within the vehicle and you are away from the outside world. You need a key to kill the vehicle on and to bolt the vehicle. As you read on, you can see a portion of the poet’s impacts for his composition. Raine is taking an interest in an extremely antiquated wonderful old custom. On the off chance that you take a gander at the sonnet as a progression of puzzles to be deciphered by the peruser, at that point that takes us back hundreds of years to the conundrum sonnets in Anglo Saxon writing. In verses 10-13, the accompanying lines are-â€Å"In homes, a spooky device rests, That wheezes when you get it. On the off chance that the apparition cries, they convey it To their lips and relieve it to lay down with sounds. But then they wake it up intentionally, by stimulating it with a finger†. This is a reference to a telephone, a ‘haunted apparatus†. On the off chance that it cries-‘rings’, we get it to our lips and ‘soothe it to lay down with sounds’, which means we talk into it. In the event that we stimulate it with a finger, we dial into it. The accompanying lines have conceivably the most strange depictions of the entire sonnet â€Å"Only the youthful are permitted to endure Openly. Grown-ups go to a discipline stay With water yet nothing to eat. They lock the entryway and endure the clamors Alone. Nobody is excluded And everyone’s torment has an alternate smell†. These are likely the hardest verses in the sonnet, however with some hard reasoning, the lines all bode well A â€Å"punishment live with just water† is a restroom. When Raine composes, â€Å"only the youthful are permitted to endure openly† he is discussing a child getting their nappies changed in the open. However, us grown-ups need to go to the washroom and endure our agony alone. Raine has composed three outstanding refrains, no one truly ponders their own or different people’s day by day utilization of the can. It is commonly implicit about and could nearly be viewed as an untouchable subject, not to be brought up in broad daylight. The keep going two refrains end on a tranquil note-â€Å"At night when all the hues bite the dust, They stow away two by two And read about themselves †In shading, with their eyelids shut†. This is a typical entire day found in the Martian’s eyes. It has now reached a conclusion, finding out about yourself in shading with your eyes shut, is clearly comprehended as dreaming. These two sonnets both offer one extremely huge subject which joins them together generally speaking, yet it is critical to state first the similitudes and contrasts between each person’s work. Gabriel Okara appears to feel emphatically about the possibility of such erroneousness in our peculiarities and methods for talking in ordinary western life, as it isn't care for the neighborly spot his country was. Gabriel Okara is by all accounts talking from his own brain, about how he feels about this condition. Craig Raine has been brought up in England, and doesn’t talk about an abnormal westernized nation like Gabriel Okara, yet about existence on this planet when all is said in done. Craig Raine doesn't appear to be irritated at our ordinary traditions (or on the off chance that he will be, he conceals it in his wording quite well), just humored at how people for the most part structure their lives. With Gabriel Okara’s style of composing, there are no puzzles to reveal and his sonnet is organized diversely rather than Craig Raine’s. Okara essentially begins with â€Å"Once upon a period, son†, which is sufficiently clear, instead of â€Å"Caxton’s are mechanical feathered creatures with wings†, which can astound most perusers. Gabriel Okara is very dull about the ‘cold’ place he has come to, not in the least like his local Nigeria. He absolutely didn't mean to humor the perusers. I feel that Raine composed this sonnet to give his brain a rest from this present reality. Maybe he composed it for delight and cleverness. I figure this would be a charming sort of sonnet to compose. Raine needed his perusers to be humored, to see life through someone else’s eyes, who has never observed life on Earth. Likewise, the Martian appears to be only distracted by human life and our regular ceremonies. Bafflingly, the Martian never talks about what life on his planet resembled, not at all like Gabriel Okara whom portrays the glow he used to understanding previously. In any case, notwithstanding these numerous distinctions, the writers meet up on one critical subject. It is, the manner in which we end our lives for conceded while others, accidentally meander around feeling befuddled at all the social and physical complexities of the unusual and outsider world around them. The artists both expound on discrete characters remarking on their involvement with somewhere else, and not feeling quiet with it as different individuals from the populace may be. The facts demonstrate that one sonnet is very dull and the other is happy, the verses and couplets are contrastingly put, the wording is distinctive and so on, yet in general, the characters being referred to are both inclination strange and befuddled pretty much all the regular perplexities. They remark on life on this Earth we experience each day and underestimate. We scarcely notice how a vehicle may sound to a pariah or how â€Å"It was decent having you here today with us† could hurt a visitor or customer who knows you didn’t mean what you said. We are for the most part so acquainted with our lives; we don't have a favorable opinion of how it might appear to any other person who has never been in that condition of condition.

Tim O Briens The Things They Carried - Free Essay Example

Sample details Pages: 6 Words: 1822 Downloads: 3 Date added: 2019/04/07 Category Literature Essay Level High school Tags: The Things They Carried Essay Did you like this example? 1945 was a difficult time for America. There were so many people still recovering from World War II, and now the Vietnam War was starting. The Things They Carried told a story of how the war changed a person, in this case, it was Tim OBrien. Don’t waste time! Our writers will create an original "Tim O Briens The Things They Carried" essay for you Create order It showed the struggle he, and many soldiers in any war went through to be able to overcome the grief and the struggle to deal with death. In this time young men were being drafted into the Vietnam War. For example, in The The Things Carried By Tim OBrien, the protagonist in his book was being drafted into the war but tried to run from it. After he tried to run from his fate he realized he was not able to. This was just the start of The Vietnam War. For example Tim OBrien and his friends and comrades in the war. He was able to paint pictures through his words being able to let the reader feel like they are there with him. Tim OBriens book The Things They Carried explained in detail how the war affected the soldiers and those around them. Tim OBrien allows the audience to feel this emotion better by writing this book as fiction. The government also had a hand in the Vietnam war as well. The American involvement in Vietnam was shaped based on the Cold War. Even though his book is ficti on, in some ways that can have an advantage in explaining the war. Tim OBrien the narrator is telling a story about the participation he had in the war. A lot of symbolism in Tim OBriens book helped us see what he went through, even though he himself did not go through it, this is the reason that a fiction story hooked the reader and gave the reader more information than a nonfiction story can. Tim OBrien brings up about both the physical objects they carry but also they have to carry their emotional burdens. The objects that each soldier carries serves as a symbol for what they are carrying in their minds. It just starts out with the title, The Things They Carried. Before reading the book one might think that it is just about what the soldiers carried in the war. Which in the beginning that what Tim OBrien is talking about. He lists every soldier, and what they carried on their backs throughout the war but this can mean something deeper if you look in between the lines. Each and every soldier carries physical baggage but the baggage they carry can represent their emotional baggage from the war. The items on their back were the psychological weight of the war. For example, Lieutenant Cross carried a picture of Martha to comfort him. He also carried a pebble that she sent ton lieutenant Cross that was a good luck charm. The quote Martha wrote that she has found the pebble on the Jersey shoreline, where the precisely where land touched water at high tide, where things came together but separated.(7). Just like now soldiers would carry pictures and mementos of their loved ones into war to comfort them for example now soldiers may carry pictures. The war had a big toll on soldiers especially when they come home. That emotional and psychological baggage may never go away. Another way the physical baggage they carried can symbolize that they lost their true identity and now they were looked just of what they carried on their backs. Another physical memento that a soldier in the book carries is when Henry Dobbins ties a pair of pantyhose from his girlfriend around his neck to help him remember the good memories he had before the war. Another way thee pantyhose can symbolize something is since while men are at war there is not much female intimacy that they got at home. Now soldiers are able to call their families and even see them. So, that was how they were able to get their female intimacy and a sense of confidence. for example, all the physical items that soldiers would carry becau se they have something to look forward to, and want to come home. Even though The Things They Carried is a fiction story it has many lessons that the reader can learn. Being a fiction story it is easier and tells everything how it is rather than a nonfiction story where the person writing it could be hiding facts back because they are scared of it. If a veteran would have written a story like this they may have blocked out a lot of important details that have happened because of PTSD and anxiety as well as depression. Fiction can also make it easier to explain horrible events in detail that no one that lived through it could. For example when Tim OBrien was explaining to his daughter about what he experienced when his daughter asked Daddy, tell the truth, Kathleen can say, did you ever kill anybody? And I can say, honestly, Of course not.(172) As Tim OBrien stated this quote In the chapter Good Form, OBrien used the quote that states, story -truth is truer sometimes than happening-truth. (171). After that he continued to explain how as he told these stories that are not true in reality, instead made the reader have the ability to sense that the feelings that it gave the reader a feeling that they are there even if the book is a work of fiction it would give the same sense if it was nonfiction, it gave the same message but not in the same context. Without using fiction some stories that are told would give the reader better knowledge than the real stories would. Fiction would not be completely sufficient for being able to bring the emotions that the soldiers were feeling during the war. Being able to catch someones attention was to main goal in Tim OBriens Book The Things They Carried of was able to create a story that was able to instantly grab the readers interest, it allowed the reader to become more involved and able to make an image and feel the emotions that were actually being felt at the time. Even though Tim OBriens work of fiction was not able to give a true and real story about Vietnam it was able to give Tim OBrien the ability to use that as an opportunity to use techniques like metaphors and symbolism to let the reader think for deeply about the situation. Fiction may seem like a story of lies, but in his work of fiction, it was positive because it was the only way to tell the real truth. When reading Tim OBriens story he made sure to have the reader ask little to no questions about the story, but instead, they became in touch with the emotion of the characters. Physical events that happened in the book had a major impact on how he explained the history of the Vietnam War. One of the first physical events that he pointed out was when he brought up the event of the puppy on the landmine on page thirty-five. He stated that one of his friends adopted an orphan puppy and took care of it by feeding it from a spoon. Then Ted Lavender came and took the puppy. Tim OBrien stated, Azar strapped the puppy to a Claymore anti-personnel mine and squeezed the firing device.(35). This event that he described had a deeper meaning when he was telling it. It symbolized the ability to make Azar have a sense of control in a time where it seemed that no one had control over anything, but he blamed it on his immaturity. Men today in the war still would have had a problem with how they felt during the war. This incident could have also meant that he was killing something innocence and purity just like the war did to him and his comrades in the war. Some other events that had more of a meaning than what was said at that moment in the book. The event that was mentioned was when before the war and he was trying to escape from being drafted in the war, and he went to a cabin in the Rainy River as he decided to stay there for a few months. Then he came to the realization that he could not escape the war. This was what many soldiers still felt in other, more modern wars. They tried to hide or flee the country, but in the end, they needed to serve their country. The event that made him realize that was on his last day at the cabin. The event was when the cabin owner, Elroy, took him up on the river towards Canada was whe4re Tim OBrien wanted to go. Tim OBrien said youre scared, and theres a hard squeezing pressure in your chest. What would you do? Would you jump? Would you feel pity for yourself?(54).One of the last and biggest events that happened was the Death of someone close to you can make you see everything in a different light. For Tim OBrien, this was the death of his first love Linda. The death of Linda represented the event that the past could be brought back through some sort of symbolism in his book. Linda was a classmate of OBriens, but she died of a brain tumor when they were in the fifth grade. This event symbolized OBriens faith that fiction storytelling was the best way to show those emotions. This event showed how he was able to deal with the pain, confusion, and most of all, the sadness that death was able to bring to him. Linda was OBriens first love and also his first experience with deaths random choice. He was able to retreat into his mind, more specifically his dreams. He was able to see Linda, alive. This showed that even though some things are just dreams which, later for Tim OBrien evolved into his story that the dead could be alive through those who remember them. The young Vietnam soldier hit Tim OBrien especially hard, like any first death on his own hands would do for a soldier. He was not completely clear if actually threw a grenade and killed My Khe, the way he described the mans death is descriptive his death. This symbolized the way humans guilt over how horrible events that happened in the war. In The Man I Killed, OBrien was able to distract himself from this event by speaking in the third person so he did not have to directly say what he did or not do. He did what many people did they would distract themselves from the memory. How Tim OBrien did this is by speaking in the third person and constructing fantasies as to what the man must have been like before he was killed.

Imagine a world in which all men weren t created equal. A world where skin color, ethnic origin, gender, and sexuality was what defined a person rather than character. â€Å"I have a dream that one day on the red hills of Georgia, the sons of former slaves and the sons of former slave owners will be able to sit together at the table of brotherhood†(King). The opressivness of Captialism Essay Example For Students

The opressivness of Captialism Essay Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels lived in an interesting time. The world around these two men had changed rapidly during the years prior to their birth and after their birth. People were forced to reconsider the structure of their societies and the way individuals were treated by society. Marx and Engels dealt directly with this problem. Their theories dealt directly with the new economic realities of a rapidly industrializing Europe. Their beliefs were grounded in a class struggle between the people who owned the means of production, the bourgeoisie, and those people who were exploited by the bourgeoisie, the proletariat. Their proposed plan was to ameliorate the problems associated with the new economic arrangement. A point has been made that a great number of changes had occurred in Europe before Marx and Engels wrote the Communist Manifesto. The Communist Manifesto was written to combat these new forces. A manifesto is a set of definitions that define how the world runs and who is involved. It classifies people into groups to allow them to identify their allies and enemies. It also states the goals of a political movement. Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels collaborated to write this document for the Communist League, which met in London during the latter part of 1847 and early part of 1848. It was meant to define the historical circumstances that led to the development of the modern era and the eventual triumph of communism which the dialectic of history predestined to occur. The nature of human relations has never been peaceful. Since the beginning of time humans have struggled amongst one another trying to satisfy their desires.Engels claimed, all history has been a history of class struggles, of struggles between exploited and exploiting, between dominated and dominating classes at various stages of social development; that this struggle, however, has now reached a stage where the exploited and oppressed class can no longer emancipated itself form the class which exploits and oppresses it (472). People at one time in history had the opportunity to overthrow their oppressors and make a better life for themselves. This was no longer true. The oppression became so harsh and omnipresent that people had no escape. This raises some interesting questions. What was the nature of the oppression? Why were people becoming more and more oppressed? What could be done about the oppression? These will all be answered later in the paper. A natural state exists in which the bourgeoisie and the proletariat are in competition with one another. The capitalists are in business to make money. Marx and Engels said, These labourers, who must sell themselves piece-meal, are a commodity, like every other article of commerce, and are consequently exposed to all the vicissitudes of competition, to all the fluctuations of the market (479). The proletariat is only worthwhile as long as they are earning money for their employers. When they are a burden they are left to fend for their livelihood. Therefore, the workers as a commodity will attempt to a make as much money as they can, while the bourgeoisie will try to maximize profits. People are becoming more oppressed because of the work they perform compared to the work that they performed in an earlier time. Marx and Engel asserted, Owning to the extensive use of machinery and to division of labour, the work of the proletarians has lost all individual character, and consequently, all charm for the workman, he becomes and appendage of the machine, and it is only the most simple, most monotonous, and most easily acquired knack, that is required of him (479). Work in factories was unlike work that was rendered in the small workshops and in their homes. People had taken pride in their work and in return received a feeling of self-worth.Bibliography:

An Inquiry Into Hamlets Madness Essays - Characters In Hamlet

An Inquiry Into Hamlet's Madness In the event of examining the nature of Hamlet's madness,we will need to probe into Hamlet's state of mind at different periods and circumstances in the play. Hamlet can be seen to be and not to be mad by different people at different stages. From one perspective, Hamlet can be seen to be mad when Ophelia goes to her father and gives a description of Hamlet's disposition when he goes to see her, also when he goes to see his mother in her closet as can be seen in his tone of voice and his murder of Polonius and his lack of repentance for his death. also, his psychological trauma and emotional depression at the begining of the play may have plunged him into emotional insanity, and lastly his encounter with Leartes in Ophelia's grave. Reversly, evidence is also shown to prove Hamlet's sanitysuch as, when he initially tell Horatio about his intended change of disposition, also, when he tells both Rosencrantz and Guildestern that he is not mad. Also the things which he claimed to have done on the ship bound for England goes to show his sanity, and lastly his encounter with Leartes in Ophelia's grave. Upon the revelation of the ghost who is supposedly Hamlet's father's spirit, we witness a marked change in Hamlet's disposition both in words and in deeds, one of such can be seen when (in Act 2 scene 1) Ophelia goes to see her father, apparently scared gives him a brief but vivid description of Hamlet's disposition when he came to see her. she describes him as having a look so pietous in purport as if he had been loosed out of hell. This shows us a marked change in Hamlet's disposition, the statement As if he had been loosed out of hell raises a lot of questions such as, what happened to Hamlet?. Possibly, some spirit or demon may have taken over him thus his appearance as being hellish in nature or it could be that he had lost his wits to hell and thus is not aware of his appearance and we are made to believe that that he appears thus throughout most of the play. Secondly, to further back up the point that hamlet was indeed mad is or can be seen with the encounter he had with his mother in her closet, where he lashes out at her to the extent that he is rude and also armed with such venomous words that frighten his mother. Possibly, he does this out of mere outrage at finding Claudius' guilt and unable to take revenge but has to see his mother and thus speaks daggers to her heart and seizes her arm possibly in a fit of madness rather than outrage as it should be noted, the act was not premeditated but rather spontaneous and Getrude in shock screams for help and Polonious who is behind the arras(curtains) screams the same and Hamlet hearing him draws his sword and kills him. And when he finally realizes whom he had killed he shows no remorse whatsoever but rather sees his actions as being justified as he says Thou wretched, rash, intrudig fool, farewell. This action and statement show a completely different personality as in most periods in the book we see Hamlet in a suicidal melancholy but never in a murderous mood as we see him here so thus it would be safe to say that he was probably momentarily taken over by a fit of madness. Also from the begining of the book, we see the tragic hero as being psychologically disturbed by the death of his father and the overhasty marriage of his mother to his uncle Claudius, and to further compound matters his love is rejected by Ophelia on the advice of her father over her true feelings and Hamlet's feelings, thus driving him into a state of emotional depression as well as psychological instability as Hamlet now saw himself as loosing both parents as well as a confidant, thus leaving him with no womanly affection whatsoever as he could no longer enjoy the sole monopoly of his mother's affection which had now gone to his uncle (Hamlet is said by some critics

Naughts and Crosses Essays

Naughts and Crosses Essays Naughts and Crosses Essay Naughts and Crosses Essay Tic Tac Toe Tic-Tac-Toe is a game in which you’re faced with a simple objective. It’s a game which has limited advancements and once it becomes familiar, the game is likely to end in a draw. No winner or loser! In a similar way, this novel is an illustration of the tic-tac-toe board as a society, in which your perceptions about people are dominated by prejudice and discrimination. At a glance, this novel may seem like a narration which cannot be correlated with an adolescent’s life but it impacts the reader’s perceptions on the prejudice which our society masks.Adolescence is a time when a person’s morals and opinions are formed and this novel can influence upon your judgements dramatically. Therefore it’s beyond question whether this book is suitable for year 10 students and the ReadPlus website. The relevance of this novel can also be justified through the valid themes and issues portrayed. Blackman has also conveyed a range of audacious personalities through the deep values and attitudes they embrace. The daring characterisation, the intense settings and the suspenseful turn of events captivates audience interest throughout the novel. Thus I believe that this novel is a suitable read for all adolescents. In today’s society, themes and issues showcased through various forms of media have an immense impact upon teenagers; however this novel has managed to influence teenagers in a positive way. To begin with, the novel focuses on a range of sensitive topics such as power and prejudice in a minimalistic yet powerful way. This is clearly illustrated when Sephy says, Like, you’re in one place and I’m in another, with a huge, great wall between us. (P. 26) This dialogue by Sephy highlights the racial wall which segregates their society. In addition, alternate history has also been used to enhance audience interest. This novel has reversed the race-relations which occurred in history. Therefore, Noughts and Crosses can be separated from all other fictions which relate to prejudice and racism. Furthermore, Blackman has also managed to incorporate issues which are relevant to adolescents. These include teenage pregnancy and alcohol addiction. At present, these themes and issues are of significance to the intended audience; therefore I believe that this novel is an inspiring read for all adolescents.Audience engagement is ensured through the wide array of values and attitudes portrayed throughout the novel. The novel displays the racist and superior values of the Crosses through the poor treatment of the noughts. Their elite attitudes were illustrated during Callum’s first day of school. Together all the Crosses recited, No blankers in our school! (P. 54)This quotation highlights the racial hierarchy present in their society which is comparable to the white-dominant history we held.In contrast, the noughts display the values of freedom and equality. This is illustrated through the formation of the rebellion group which is fighting for justice. Lastly, the two protagonists show individuality and conformity through their actions, values and attitudes. For instance, Callum values equality and freedom he pursues this through his involvement in the rebellion group whereas Sephy is going against her society’s beliefs and practices through her association with someone of an inferior class. The values and attitudes portrayed in this novel are relatable to the teenage audience as social factors such as peer pressure and popularity usually influence our decisions. Hence, this novel is showcasing positive morals appropriate for year 10 students. The effective display of characterisation, setting and events will demand audience attention. The author’s descriptions are brief and the author tends to be direct rather than elaborative. The following narration is an example, They were real good friends, no barriers, and no boundaries. (P. ) This quote illustrates her brief and simple language usage. Nonetheless, her direct approach doesn’t compromise detail, especially when it comes to the setting. The entire plot is reliant upon the setting. The dystopian society which the author has created is totalitarian. This is showcased in the novel through the dictatorship style of government the society abides by. In a nutshell, the story describes the friendship between the two protagonists. The events in the novel aspire to represent a deep relationship which is challenged by the racial divisions within the society.Consequently, this novel is relevant to the intended audience. On reflection, it’s undeniable that the book, Noughts and Crosses is a suitable read for all year 10 students. The novel will modify any stereotypical views which you may have held on racism as it reverses the two variables around. We all believe that justice and peace are the key to a society but are we still locked out within the brick walls of discrimination and prejudice or is that just letting our past define the present?

Just as the company had seemed to be the darling of Wall Street and invulnerable to failure, it also seemed to be a truly responsible company. Of course, it is important to note that not everyone bought into Enron's golden story. Greg Palast, an investigative journalist for The Guardian, had been writing exposes on Enron for years (2004). Palast in a retrospective on Enron in 2002 argued that Enron's collapse was predictable due to a combination of lackluster media criticism that continued after the crisis, a culture of political irresponsibility and a sense of political entitlement, arrogance, and other factors: One tabloid...called Baxter a "hero"...[T]his is the Baxter who last year quietly crawled out of Enron...then dumped his stock on unsuspecting buyers... There have been a lot of misplaced tears in the Affair Enron. The employees were shafted, no doubt about it. But the shareholders? Large amounts of money are invested in capital projects, the resources that are invested in a project are often committed for a long period of time and it may be difficult to reverse the effects of a poor decision. In view of the above, the viability of this new product line should be made based on the time needed to commit to the project, the expenses associated with the project , source of funds to finance the project ,level of return of new product and the additional revenue expected from the project. I. Regulatory and compliance risk-this is the risk of regulatory sanctions that arises when Company fail to follow the code of conduct as outlined by the rule of law in the course of carrying out its activities. This is brought about by changes in needs and fashion .a Company therefore should always be in line with this shifts so as to produce products that suit consumers needs Uncertainty Most business firms fear the challenges that may face the organization in the future. The uncertainty in credit market, coupled with new laws and the fluctuations in the global economy influences investment decisions. Thus most firms shy away from long term commitment of funds to long term projects in favor of short term projects with uncertainty being their major excuse. This problem of uncertainty can however be solved by making long term strategic planning. Globalization This is a major challenge to firms today. Firms need to understand foreign cultures so as to penetrate new markets with their products and services. Also firms face stiff competition from competitors who unknown to them are in foreign markets as a result of increased globalization. The challenge therefore can be solved by in depth understanding of international markets and diverse foreign cultures through better research of information for better analysis. Technology The technological advancement is running at an increasing rate. Some competitors use this as a tool to outdo their competitors that is they wait for next generation of technology which may be a half a year away then use it to gain a competitive edge over other firms. Hence firms need to come up with a reliable long term technology plan and also remain flexible to use to their advantage any unforeseen technology development. II. Bats Definition Essay Essay Example for Free

Bats Definition Essay Essay Bats are defined as flying mammals of the order Chiroptera . They have a worldwide distribution in tropical and temperate regions and have modified forelimbs that serve as wings and are covered with a membranous skin extending to the hind limbs that allows them to fly. The bat’s the only mammal capable of true flight. They use echolocation to find their prey by emitting sound waves that bounce off objects in front of them and echo back to them. By using their highly advanced hearing they can determine an object’s size, shape, location and even texture Bats are good at keeping insect populations in control by hunting Different bats live through the winter in a variety of ways. Some types of bats migrate while others hibernate. Some even go into Torpor (a state of controlled hypothermia). Bats in the wild usually find places like hollow trees or caves to hibernate in, but they also find comfort in man made locations. It’s during the winter that most homeowners need to be aware of bat activity surrounding their homes. It’s not uncommon for bats to move into homes to stay warm, dry and secure during the winter months. They’re especially fond of places like attics, crawlspaces and unused chimneys. Bats are commonly thought of as carriers of rabies. While bats can get rabies the percentage of bats with the disease is less than one percent, so there is no reason to fear a bat more than other animals. However, it is recommended that bats found in houses or bats that come in contact with humans be taken to a local health department vet or police for rabies testing to rule out the presence of the disease. Signs of a bat infestation can include the smell of urine or feces (or guano) in strange places (usually near walls or fire places) or maybe even the physical presence of animal waste. Another, more obvious sign includes scratching and squeaking in the walls or ceiling. Occasionally bats may find their way into the inner sanctum of your household. There are many rights and wrongs to getting a bat out of the house First of all, it is important to know your foe and be aware of a bat’s abilities. When trapped indoors bats have the tendency to swoop back and forth through a room quickly. When this happens the best thing to do is to contain the bat in one room and open any doors or screenless windows leading to the outdoors. If this is possible simply stand back and wait for it to land or fly out the window. If you have some sort of net you could try catching it as it swoops by. Bats cannot take off from the ground, so they have to climb and take off from high places like walls or furniture, so when a bat is grounded you have the opportunity to catch the bat. This can be done in several ways. Regardless of how you catch a bat you must always be very careful to not touch the bat to prevent being bitten or scratched. Cornered bats can be quite vicious if provoked. You can use gloves, a thick towel or net to capture the bat. If you prefer not to use your hand you could use a box, can, or Tupperware container by trapping the bat and then sliding a piece of cardboard under it. Regardless of how you choose to approach a bat, it is always a good idea to at least wear thick gloves to avoid being bitten. Any bat suspected of having physical contact with a person should be captured and submitted for rabies testing. Your local health department, animal control office or veterinarian can help you submit the bat to a laboratory for rabies testing. If the bat tests negative, rabies treatment can be avoided. If a bat bites or has physical contact with a person, the wound or contact area should be washed immediately with soap and water. Unfortunately, bat bites and scratches are small and may go unnoticed. In certain situations it may be impossible to know if contact with a bat has occurred. These situations occur when a bat is found in the same room with a sleeping person, infant or young child, a person with a disease that reduces mental capacity, or persons under the influence of alcohol or drugs. Whenever a bat has physical contact with a person, or is suspected of coming in contact with a person, the bat should be captured and tested, if possible, and the incident should be reported immediately to a physician and local health authority to assess the need for rabies treatment. Bats are good for the environment and should not be feared but respected. Bats good for the environment and keep the mosquito population down preventing the spread of infectious diseases such as malaria and West-Nile Virus. Bats are often viewed in culture as evil

The Truth of War Exposed in A Farewell to Arms Essay -- Farewell Arms

The Truth of War Exposed in A Farewell to Arms The soldier takes his last breath as he faces the menacing glare of the beast known as the enemy gun.   Emotions run through him as he awaits the final blow that will determine his destiny.   Memories flash through his mind, none of which will be of any significance once he leaves this world.   Out of the barrel of the gun, had suddenly come terror, murder, and chaos, all at once.   "I say it's rotten.   Jesus Christ, I say it's rotten." (Hemingway 35)   Summarized in two sentences is Ernest Hemingway's personal attitude towards World War I.  Ã‚      In A Farewell to Arms by Hemingway, the characters criticize the war and views it as the source of their misery.  Ã‚   Instead of finding the patriotic and courageous hero engaged victorious battle scenes, this novel portrays the so-called hero as a brazen who lacks any ambition.   This is the story of war seen through the cynical eyes of a Red Cross ambulance driver who lived the horrors.   Through a combination of ironic, cynical and apathetic tones, Hemingway's contempt towards World War I is reflected in the nature surroundings and the voice of his characters. Primarily, Hemingway attempts to expose the truths behind the war through his characters by using a tone of cynicism.   In the dialogues and streams-of-consciousness, characters repeatedly avow their reprobation for the war. "Abstract words such as glory, honor, courage, or hallow were obscene." (185)   These words that once held meaning has now lost its significance.   No longer is the war about patriotism or courage; instead it is replaced by a certain crookedness, the national glories lost somewhere in-between the madness.   War is now where the soldiers  ... ...; and to achieve national glory, spirits are broken repeatedly until the point where they only wish to die.   The result is war, an outcome of the cruel and senseless world where violence is the backslash of violence.   There is no glory here; there is only condemnation.   The cynical words of Hemingway's characters are his own, the apathetic attitude of Fred is meant to represent himself, and the irony of the destruction on nature, is just one more reason why Hemingway opposes the war.   Hiding behind his characters, it's the diary of Hemingway himself.    Works Cited Hemingway, Ernest. Motivation Case Study - 1769 Words

The purpose of this essay is to discuss the topic, motivation, by conducting a detailed literature review, interpreting the results from motivation self-assessment tests and analysing a motivation-related case study. This paper will be divided into three main sections and the first section will demonstrate the key concepts suggested by various researchers such as Ryan (1995) and Herzberg’s (1996) theory about motivation. Secondly, an analysis of outcomes from personal motivation surveys will indicate my work behaviour and they will be underpinned by the literature discussed in the first section. The third section will use needs, equity, expectancy and goal-setting to discuss the case study and this paper will conclude with implications for†¦show more content†¦Fifthly, communication and roll out which should give everyone in the organisation a clear understanding of the program and a plan of how the information is going to deliver to target populations will also need to be provided. The final step is to evaluate and access the implemented programs against to the expected outcomes stated in Step 1. Lin (2006) also recommended few implications as followed: avoiding emphasis on organisational rewards (e.g. promotion incentives and bonuses) as a fundamental knowledge exchanging method due to extrinsic rewards only increase employee motivation for a temporary period; managers can try to increase the enjoyment of a task to make their work more interesting; and organisations can invite employees to join decision making processes in order to increase their employee loyalty and to increase employee involvement. According to my results of conducting the human needs survey (Alderfer, 1972) I scored 15, 19 and 14 for growth, relatedness and existence needs.
